Have you ever had one of those days where absolutely everything seems to pile on at once? Finding resilience during these overwhelming moments can feel nearly impossible, but giving yourself grace—and finding a reason to smile—is where it all begins.
When Everything Goes Wrong at Once
It was a long 12-hour shift, and from the moment the day started, chaos followed. The Wi-Fi crashed, and bills were due. Because of long weekend bank delays, I had to temporarily draw from my line of credit just to keep funds moving.
Then came a quick run in the heat to pick up an LCBO order for a customer. When I got back, my display fridge went completely haywire—melting ice cream earlier this week, and now freezing my eggs and milk solid! How does a cooler switch from melting ice cream to freezing eggs overnight?
At first, I didn’t get it. But then I looked at the upside: hey, endless free protein! I ended up cooking eggs, boiling eggs, and making egg salad. It actually saved me a bundle on groceries for the week!

Finding Resilience When You Feel Like Giving Up
Even with the funny side of the frozen eggs, the total stress of the day caught up to me by closing time. Facing a $2,000 cost for a new fridge on top of existing debts felt like the final straw. Driving home, tears welled up in my eyes. Heavy thoughts flooded my mind: Why is everything going wrong? Should I just give up and sell the store?
If you have ever felt that way, please know that it is completely okay to feel sad, cry, and release your stress. It isn’t weakness; it’s just human. Sometimes, taking a moment to reset is how we start finding resilience again. Just like in our previous story about unexpected places to heal, growth often comes from navigating these unexpected detours.
A Lesson from a Snake Plant
When I parked at home, I saw my Snake Plant standing right on the walkway—the same plant that had survived all day outside in the scorching heat.
The Snake Plant is famous for surviving harsh conditions, low light, and neglect. Looking at those leaves standing tall, it hit me: I am not alone. We all have an incredible capacity for finding resilience within ourselves.
The next morning, I woke up back to normal, full of energy! Instead of rushing out to buy a expensive new fridge, I realized I could just move sensitive inventory to the back storage cooler at night and bring it out in the morning. It’s a little extra daily exercise, saves $2,000, and keeps things moving. I even called my customer, Terry, to thank him for his support!
Give yourself grace on hard days. It’s okay to break down, but remember—you are far more resilient than you think.
